Free Eating Disorder Support Group   

Providing support and information to the South Sound community, people struggling with disordered eating tendencies, as well as their friends and family members, Stacy Schilter, M.A., and Tracy Kenela, M.A., CRC are co-facilitating Liberated from Within. This is a FREE, educational community support group being held on Tuesday evenings from 6:30 pm – 8:00 pm at Providence St. Peter’s Hospital. The next session will begin on Tuesday, January 5, 2010 in the Caritas Room, located on the 3rd Floor of the Emilie Gamelon Pavilion.

Information is provided and discussions facilitated about a focus topic each Tuesday night.   The group is designed to provide a safe environment for those individuals hoping to talk about food or body-related issues.  It is also a place for individuals striving to learn more information about how to contribute to prevention efforts and how to access local resources.

With over 15 years combined experience in the field of mental health, the co-facilitators of Liberated from Within share an interest in assisting the population of individuals striving to break free of negative body image or a maladaptive relationship with food.  Participants of the group will benefit from their perspectives, their expertise and the educations they have received.   More specifically…


Tracy Kenela earned an M.A. in Marriage and Family Therapy from Chapman University and holds two national certifications in Rehabilitation Counseling. Tracy has provided counseling and rehabilitation services to individuals with disabilities, and is now contributing her counseling and rehabilitation experience to the community to raise awareness about the incidence and prevalence of eating disorders.  Tracy has a private counseling practice in Olympia which focuses on treating eating disorders and related emotional and relationship issues. Tracy is also the author of an online column in the Seattle Examiner focusing on eating disorders. 

Stacy Schilter acquired her M.A. in Marriage and Family Therapy, as well as Mental Health Counseling from Antioch University. She is now a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT).  She has worked in the field of eating disorders for an extended period of time, spending three years with the National Eating Disorders Association and two years facilitating a support group in the Seattle area. She is developing her private counseling practice and is focusing her efforts on individuals and families affected by the disordered eating mindset. Currently, she is also working as a chemical dependency professional at an outpatient facility in Olympia.
